Bomb Incidence of 1985 (2042 BS) and Inhuman Torture
Nepali Congress called for Satyagraha on May 23, 1985. In this connection thousands of Congress leaders and workers and leftist personalities were for participating in the Satyagraha. During the Satyagraha, there were bomb blasts in the main gate of the Royal Palace and in the Galary Meeting Hall of the Rastriya Panchayat (parliament) on the June 20, 1985. These were followed by the bomb blasts in Pokhara and Janakpur. Seven people died in these bomb blasts. After the bomb incidents, about 100 people were arrested from various parts of the country and they were subjected to inhuman torture for months. Eight of them have disappeared from police custody. Before they disappeared, they were seriously injured due to brutal torture. Even after five years of the advent of democracy, it has not been confirmed whether they are dead or alive.
